Eye Diseases
We would like to express our sincere appreciation and thanks to Professor Sheila Crispin (MA Vet MB BSc PhD DVA DVOphthal DipECVO FRCVS) who has prepared the attached presentation on Eye Health in Border Collies. This is shared with all who are attending or watching the National and we hope you all gain a better understanding of eye health in our Border Collies.
A little bit about Sheila … the inspirational teaching and enthusiasm of the late Dr Keith Barnett, who was Head of the Comparative Ophthalmology Unit at the University of Cambridge, undoubtedly kindled Sheila’s lifelong interest in comparative ophthalmology, especially eye disease in working dogs. She has been Chief Panellist of the British Veterinary Association/Kennel Club/International Sheep Dog Society Eye Scheme on four previous occasions.
She lives on a small farm in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the Lake District National Park and has owned many Border Collies over the years, together with occasional rescue dogs that, whatever their state of health on arrival, all end up looking remarkably like Border Collies!
For more information see the BVA and Kennel Club Hereditary Eye Disease leaflet.
